Politics "Comcast is to this decade what Standard Oil was to the 1890s. It's a behemoth that controls and bullies many industries and exercises inordinate control in Washington, DC."

liberalsarecool:

The FCC deregulated radio ownership under Bush and it destroyed the local radio industry. One big Texas-based company, Clear Channel, ended up owning 1200+ radio stations nationally and it made radio worse.

By allowing one company to own so many stations, and own more than one station in the same market, playlists shrunk and formats switched. It was no longer about genre-driven music or local tastes, it was corporate and risk adverse. There was no incentive to play new or edgy music. It was geared for major labels to promote their bland music.

Music got worse because major labels became gate keepers. No longer were cities promoting their new artists. Music sales died because consumers were exposed to fewer artists. Retail stores went out of business. This has a snowball effect.

This will be the same thing if net neutrality is changed. Innovation will die. New ideas will suffer. Large corporations will influence what you see and hear.

This is based on history. We need to keep neutrality and maintain the internet as a level playing field.

This Is Your Brain
University of California researchers have created  a system that shows how the brain works in real time, allowing users to navigate right inside their own heads and see their neuronal activity firing in 3D.
Each color represents source power and connectivity in a different frequency band (theta, alpha, beta, gamma) and the golden lines are white matter anatomical fiber tracts. Estimated information transfer between brain regions is visualized as pulses of light flowing along the fiber tracts connecting the regions.

William H. Foster III, comic book historian, on representation in comic books. From PBS’s Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle.

Because a post crossed my dash recently asking why we need to push for more representation in comic books and media in general. 50 years later, this man still tears up because in one panel, Peter Parker spoke to an unnamed black kid. That’s why we need representation.
